People Show

People Show

In London, 1966, an ad hoc group of artists created a ‘happening’ and called it ‘People Show’. Now in its 40th year, and numbering 116 shows, the People Show has performed all over the UK in streets, fields, dance halls, telephone boxes, toilets, parks, trains and even in theatres. International tours include La Mama, New York; The Mickery, Amsterdam; Paris Theatre Mecanique; Sarajevo Festival and Berlin’s Akademie der Kunst.

In this week, we pushed for the story that lies at the soul of a piece, putting aside rationale and logic. Working directly with the unique combination of individuals in the room, using devising methods - as exemplified in People Shows - to source inspiration, find the right combination of tools and ideas to excite, and seek to be open to ‘accidental discoveries’. Participants were helped to attain the means (and the courage!) to discover the story that lies between the lines.
