Mathieu is a founder member of the one of the most innovative European touring theatre companies of recent years, France's own Collectif AOC.
Focusing on the wish to forge a performing style that is truly their own, AOC prefer not to impose any one single style on their work. They blend diverse disciplines (including dance, circus, music, acrobatics, theatre ) and share them with audiences in familiar and unexpected productions.
During this week-long course, Mathieu will explore cross artform collaboration, experimenting with fusing forms and investigating how you can work with the frictions this creates. Collectif AOC seamlessly fuse circus skills, dance, music, and scenic design in all of their work. The exploration will not be focussed on the juxtaposition of these, but on looking at integration; using skills and forms to bind the show together, creating something beautiful, aesthetically pleasing and highly artistic. Mathieu will also explore how we find and use a more gestural vocabulary in the work, rather than a verbal narrative.
He will work without topics or directives, but instead will work with concrete elements (chair, table etc.). The Laboratory will also play with improvisations, and the constraints of the body and objects. Work will be videoed in the Laboratory to support results of the research and to aid in writing.
