Lemn Sissay

Lemn Sissay

Lemn is a poet, playwright and broadcaster, author of five poetry collections. His most recent play, Something Dark, won awards for its Radio 3 broadcast in 2005. You can also hear his poetry on the award winning album Leftism by Leftfield.

Lemn's workshops shared some deceptively clear ways to get to the heart of the matter. Poetry is the voice at the back of the mind. We think in poems and speak in inadequate sentences. Poetry can be the great translator of the spirit of any story. How do we achieve this impact without falling into melodrama or untruth? Lemn Sissay took participants from the beginning to the end of some of the processes that he himself uses to write and perform.

"His poems are the songs of the street, declamatory, imaginative, hard-hitting"
