Helen Crocker

Over the last 30 years Helen has been involved in the circus arts as a performer, teacher, deviser, choreographer, director, strategist and champion.

Inspired by experimentation and the exciting possibilities of mixing form, style and content, Helen has devoted much of her career to running/co-founding Fooltime and Circomedia in Bristol where the emphasis on artistic development allowed her to view them as long term laboratories, supporting students to experiment and integrate circus skills with theatre, movement and visual arts.

Her hope through this residency is to take her own understanding of how to develop vocabularies using circus skills and to use these to communicate effectively with audiences, giving a strong voice to ideas and themes of exploration. She is especially concerned to address the use of text and narrative in her work.

Helen originally trained at London Contemporary Dance School and undertook a 1yr post graduate diploma at Laban. She has worked with and for artists/companies including:, Rose English, Cunning Stunts, Circus Senso, Compass, IOU, Company of the Imagination, 7:84 Theatre Co, Theatre Venture, Circus Space Satellite, Camden Council Events, Circomedia Graduates, Zap Arts and Albany Deptford.

She is currently the Creative Producer for Circus & Street Arts, Bristol.
