Gavin Marshall

Over the past 15 years Gavin has been involved in the arts as an actor, acrobat/ aerial performer, writer, choreographer and director.

Originally inspired by the work of Circus Oz and Ra-Ra Zoo in the late 80's, his hope through this residency is to develop circus based work that combines the beauty and spectacle of circus with the depth and content of drama - a synthesis of skills and story exploring the world of expression rather than display that will move audiences, rather than just impress them.

Gavin trained at Bristol University, Fooltime and has participated in masterclasses with Theatre de Complicite, Circus Oz, Shared Experience, Declan Donellan, Philippe Gaullier, David Glass & Angela De Castro. He has created a range of work with/for the RSC as well as with: John Paul Zaccarini, Linda Marlowe, GenCo & Camden Council Events, plus cabarets/circus acts for The Arches and Club Archaos in Glasgow, and BAC, Duckie and The Gate in London.

He has taught at RSC, Circus Space, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Arches, SBC and the National Youth Theatre. He was shortlisted for the Arts Foundation Award for his contribution to contemporary circus in 2003.
